πŸ“œ Boarding House Rules

Translated from the official German Internatsordnung & Schulordnung of Privatgymnasium der Herz-Jesu-Missionare, Salzburg.

Daily Routine

  • Wake-up at 6:45 β€” get out of bed when the radio alarm sounds, prepare yourself and your school things. Tidy your room.
  • Breakfast: 7:15 – 7:30 (minimum stay until 7:30). Dinner: 17:45 – 18:15. All students must be present for the full duration of meals.
  • After breakfast, do not return to the boarding building. Go with packed school bag to breakfast, then directly to class. (Exception: upper-year free period.)

School Day

  • Staying in the boarding house during school hours (7:50 – 16:40, including Tagesheim) is forbidden. No presence during breaks or lunch free time. (Exceptions: changing for PE, first period free per timetable, Tagesheim exemptions from Year 7.)
  • Outside persons or fellow students may not enter the boarding house between 7:50 and 16:40.
  • Sickness / absence must be reported to the boarding supervisor and the school office by morning (phone or in person). Stay in bed only after supervisor permission.

Weekend

  • The boarding house is closed on weekends. All students go home Friday after the last class (exceptions: guest students or with boarding head approval).
  • Guest students must register for weekend meals with the supervisor on Thursday evening.
  • Participation in boarding weekends is mandatory. Active participation in community life is expected.

Room Order

  • Rooms must be left tidy each morning: bed made, no suitcases/clothes on the floor, no plates or cups left behind.
  • Weekly: every room must be vacuumed and the bin emptied (bin station in corridor or large station at school). Room inspection by supervisor before Friday departure β€” can be done Thursday evening on request.
  • Shoes must not be kept in the room β€” store them in the yellow lockers on the ground floor (exception: sports shoes and slippers).
  • Once a week, every room must clean the bathroom, toilet, and mirror shelves. Clear everything the evening before or in the morning.

Floor Duty (Stockwerksdienst)

  • One student per week has floor duty. Tasks: set up breakfast and dinner β€” pick up the trolley from the kitchen 5 minutes before the meal (7:10 / 17:40) and bring it to the dining hall. Collect the floor duty key from the supervisor's room in advance.
  • After meals: soak plates, wipe tables, return trolley to kitchen (by 18:10 at the latest).
  • Every evening at 20:30: tidy the common room, ground-floor kitchen, and study hall (straighten chairs, cushions) and report any issues to the supervisor.
  • Monitor corridor bin stations β€” if overflowing, empty them at the school bin station.
  • If unable to do duty, find your own substitute.

Common Room & Kitchen

  • Common room and ground-floor kitchen are normally locked. Borrow the key from the supervisor. Cooking is an exception available only to older students, and requires prior permission.
  • After use, restore order and wash/put away dishes yourself. Checked by floor duty at 20:30.
  • Ordering or bringing in food without supervisor permission is forbidden.

Sign-Out & Communication

  • Leaving: sign out personally with a supervisor and enter it in the sign-out list.
  • You must inform the supervisor team of all absences, in person (also possible during school breaks). Only in emergencies may email or phone be used.
  • Supervisors must always know where students are. The responsibility to communicate lies with the student.

Bedtime

Stop playing/working with devices 1 hour before bedtime. Brush teeth and get ready for bed 15 minutes before.
